How To Make Murukku At Home
Murukku is a deep fried snack made with rice flour and urad dal. It is very easy to make at home. You can have it while enjoying rain or when reading your favourite book.Here is the recipe :
Ingredients:
roasted rice flour - 1 cupurad dal (black gram) - 1/4 cup
chilly powder - 1 tsp or as needed
cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
sesame seeds - 1 + 1/2 tsp
salt - 1 tsp
asafoetida - a pinch
butter - 1 tbs
water
oil for deep frying
Method
step 1
- wash and dry roast urad dal till light golden colour- when it is cool powder it finely and add into the rice flour
step 2
- mix all the ingredients- add water gradually and make smooth dough (*see notes)
- put star shaped disc in the mould and fill it with the dough
- make spirals by pressing it on a flat lid or foil
step 3
- heat oil for deep frying- when it is hot enough reduce flame to medium
- deep fry the murukku till golden and crispy
- drain on kitchen tissue
- store in airtight container.
Notes:
- Use normal water for making dough.- To check if the water is enough press the dough through the mould; if it breaks add a little more water and knead again.Then make spirals.
