Ingredients:
- Wheat flour (atta) 2 cups (300g)
- Jaggery 250g
- Coconut flakes 2 tbs
- Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
- Sesame seeds 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
- Baking soda 1/4 tsp
- Salt 1/4 tsp
- Add crushed jaggery into a sauce pan
- Add 1 cup of water
- Boil and melt the jaggery
- Once it come to boil, turn off the flame and keep aside for 5 minutes
- Meanwhile Combine together flour, baking soda and salt
- To this add the hot jaggery syrup, a little at a time and stir well
- Then add normal water to adjust the consistency
- Make it a smooth batter without any lumps
- Fry coconut flakes in ghee and add this to the batter
- Add cardamom powder, sesame seeds and cumin seeds
- Heat up oil/ ghee in unniyappachatti
- When the oil is hot enough (180 degree C) pour the batter
- Deep fry till they get dark brown color
- Remove from oil and repeat this process till the entire batter is finished
- Delicious super soft unniyappam is ready within minutes!!
