Scones Recipe
Ingredients :
- maida/all purpose flour -2 cups(250g)
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- cold butter - 1/4 cup (50g)
- sugar - 3 tbs (45g)
- milk - 140ml
Method :
- sift the dry ingredients (flour,baking powder and salt) into a mixing bowl
- add in the butter ( cubed into small size)
- lightly rub the butter into the flour with fingers; do not over rub
- when the mix looks like fine crumb add in the sugar and mix gently
- add in most of the milk and stir in gently
- as the mix comes together you can decide if you need the remaining milk
- do not over work the dough
- when the mixture come together into a soft non sticky dough place it into a lightly floured surface
- gently knead 2 - 3 times to get a ball
- roll out into 1 inch thickness
- dip a 2 inch cutter into some flour and then cut out the scones
- gently gather the dough dough and cut the remaining scones
- arrange them on a tray lined with parchment paper
- brush the top with beaten egg
- bake in a preheated oven at 200 degree Celsius for 25 - 28 minutes or until golden
- when they are cool enough to handle serve them with jam, whipped cream and coffee
